A lifelong
resident of eastern Washington, Dr. Emtman was born in Spokane and went
to high school in Quincy. He graduated from the Honors Program at
Washington State University in 1977 receiving a BS in Zoology and was
elected Phi Beta Kappa. During his undergraduate education at WSU he
participated in a volunteer medical/vaccination program Amigos de las
Americas and was assigned to two rural villages in Nicaragua during the
summer of 1975. Following his undergraduate education he participated in
the University of Washington Medical School’s WAMI program which allowed
him to spend his 1st year of medical school at WSU. Since finishing
Family Practice Residency in 1984 he has practiced in Pullman and has
continued as a preceptor for the WAMMI program.
Dr. Emtman has served as the President of the Medical Staff of Pullman
Memorial Hospital (now Pullman Regional Hospital) and in 2010 received
their Physician’s Excellence Award. Rick and his wife Kathy have two
sons and have been active in Boy Scouts, church activities, snow and
water sports, and travel.
